The ceremony will take place at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London Thursday 22 June 2017, hosted by one of the UK’s top comedians, Jimmy Carr.

One of the most distinctive talents on television, Jimmy is known for his deadpan sense of humour and his signature laugh. Starring in many TV programmes over the years, including the topical panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats, the weekly satire 10 O’Clock Live and the ever-popular Have I Got News For You, Jimmy has become a star of British comedy.

After a quarter-life crisis, Jimmy decided to quit his job in marketing and train to become a psychotherapist. However, a career in comedy was where he really flourished. Described as England’s answer to Emo Phillips, his material effectively deconstructs aspects of modern day life through a series of  more one-liners than should be humanly possible.

Jimmy has appeared on Tonight With Jay Leno as well as Late Night With Conan O’Brien. He’s also a regular QI panellist alongside hosting Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz.

Aside from his TV roles, Jimmy was the first comedian to perform an online gig on Second Life. He is consistently one of the UK’s top live comedians touring almost every year and his live DVDs regularly top the charts. He has also toured with the band The Killers.

Jimmy has made an appearance in a number of films, including Confetti, Storm Breaker, and Telstar, and is also the author of  joke book ‘The Naked Jape: Uncovering the Hidden World of Jokes’.

Publication and event manager Carl Hearnden said: “We are thrilled to have Jimmy Carr as this year’s host; guests are guaranteed to be in fits of laughter. With Jimmy’s outstanding talent and distinctive dark humour, the BKU Awards 2017 are set to be a truly fantastic night”.
